TANAKA

LIVE

In my improvised live set me and my random generators bounce ideas off each other. This approach allows carefully created elements to flow into endless new combinations. Themes suggested by the tools can be rejected or accepted, further processed and shaped. Every parameter can and will be edited manually. Everything is created in the moment. The result is deep techno that never stays in one place. Stable drums merge with raw analog basses. Loopy vocals add a certain vibe. Sometimes trippy and atmospheric, sometimes just techno.

ABOUT ME

Over the last few years my sound has developed more and more into techno. It is raw and fast. The bass drum should never stop, and highly polished aesthetics and drops are deliberately avoided. Every set is unique. What remains is the energy level and the vibe. Best understood in dark basements, deep in the night, with lots of fog in spacE ... and in your head.

I started producing house music in 2013. Back then, we where two, under the name "Tanaka Canziani" and with live vocals by San Diego based singer and painter Jack Canziani. Songs were produced with attention to details and later performed. This happened in pretty much all Berlin clubs and at various festivals.

A few years later, I continued performing solo. This led to the project "Jürgen Peng". I experimented with various artists, such as "Harry Charles", who provided stable basslines throughout the set with his bass guitar.

I am no stranger to hand-played instruments having played guitar and synthesizer as well as writing lyrics and doing vocals in various bands since my youth. Even today my musical education continues in the form of jazz applied to the piano. The experience of processing musical content on the piano paved the way for pure techno. I no longer feel compelled to realize all of my musical inspiration into the same project. Catchy melodies and moving harmonies can now take place on the piano, and raw techno can simply take place in the club. Jazz improvisation skills have also had a huge impact on my live set architecture. There is no longer a need to compose and rehearse songs in advance. Songs emerge spontaneously, depending on what I am feeling at that moment on the floor.
