Experiencing the Performing Arts Audibly

How can the performing arts be combined with audio technologies in the context of narrative spaces and live theater? The aim of the research is to create new levels of experience in theater through the use of audio technology and in sound production.

How can new dramaturgical levels through the use of audio interfaces lead to another component in the spectrum of action? Head tracking plays a role in performances in real space. Depending on where the head is turned, the audio signal also changes. The phantom sound source remains fixed at a certain position in the room. How can the mixed use of speakers, real sounds, and headphones be combined to create a hybrid performance?

In previous works, I have created virtual spaces through the sound layers. By placing loudspeakers in the room or using binaural effects for headphone playback, I was able to create virtual sound worlds made to measure. The audience was directly and immediately in the action.

It does not always make sense to use this technique. With time, immersive techniques seem self-evident. They lose their effect if they are used too strongly and constantly. The limits of "non-immersivity" will also be examined more closely in the course of the research.
